The mission of the Western Piedmont Symphony (WPS) is to enrich and engage the communities of Western North Carolina through high quality symphonic music with creative, relevant performances and educational opportunities for all ages. Since 1964, WPS has accomplished this mission by providing exceptional music to the region. From the world-class artistry of the Masterworks series, to the spectacular entertainment of the Foothills Pops series, to the genre-bending diversity of the Chamber Classics series, there is something for everyone at the Western Piedmont Symphony.
Education is a core component of the Western Piedmont Symphony. There are multiple educational programs reaching different grade levels, as well as specific concert programs targeted towards young adults, families, and senior citizens. Each year, the Symphony performs educational concerts for thousands of students throughout Western North Carolina. WPS is also the home of two ensembles for young musicians: Debut Strings, a group for aspiring string players, and Western Piedmont Youth Symphony, a full orchestra of high school-level students.
